To meet the growing demands on modern batteries in terms of performance, storage density, reliability and safety, there is a huge need for improvements to present-day technologies. The Center for Applied Electrochemistry ZfAE at Fraunhofer ISC has made substantial contributions to progress in the field of component development, ranging from electrolytes and electrode materials to cell design. In addition to established lithium-ion technology, new approaches are also being pursued in the fields of nickel-metal hydride, lead-acid and zinc-air batteries. Particular emphasis is given to storage media for electromobility and to stationary storage systems to ensure a reliable energy supply, especially from renewable sources. The ZfAE offers a complete range of electrochemical characterization services and aims to serve as a trusted partner to material manufacturers and the battery industry.
